Heating system gurgles & croaks

Submitted by on December 21, 2005 – 4:10 pmNo Comment

After the wait to have the gas and heat service restored and the subsequent leaks fixed things have been somewhat quiet on the plumbing front. I was told that the gurgling that I was hearing when the heat was turned on was the result of air being worked out of the heating system.

Well, it’s been more than a month and at certain times, areas of the building sound like an amplified fish tank. After searching for pooling water, dripping ceilings and wet walls (and finding none), Nifs reccomended checking for blockages. She found that a few of the heating pipes which should’ve been warm, weren’t. While this helps explain why it’s been cold at night, it doesn’t explain why gas bills have been so high. Mr. Rooter will be back tomorrow a.m. since they’re the ones that took over the job — which is warranteed!

Update: The water flow control valve that manages the water pressure to the system was not providing pressure sufficient enough to pump water throughout the house. One quick adjustment later and all heaters are up and running without a sound (all without cost).

Transit strike
Paid Hours worked from home yesterday: 4
Billable hours missed due to MTA Strike: 8
It was fine until it started hitting my wallet as I was told today by my evening job that travel time to work (or hours missed) cannot be counted in the billable hours for the pay period.
